War in Ukraine

Ukraine lies at the heart of Europe in terms of geography, history and culture, but it is also a post-Soviet state with long-standing ties to Russia. This dual legacy is the pretext for Russia’s genocidal war, but in theory it should be a geopolitical asset. Here is a European country that, uniquely, looks both east and west.
